Mangalore, Jul 20: A married lady and mother of three residing in Paddanthadka, in Belthangady under Venur police station limits was allegedly raped and threatened by two men on Monday July 18. The incident came to light only on Wednesday July 20 when the woman broke her silence.
The lady was allegedly raped by Farooq and Naushad, residents of Gantalkatte, Moodubidre on Monday.
However, she did not disclose the matter to anybody, including her husband, a rickshaw driver. On Wednesday when her husband found her crying, he coaxed her to speak out and she told him about the incident.
Background
The victim had given her gold to one Shamina, a family friend back in December 2010, who pledged it at a finance company. But after some months when she asked Shamina to return her gold, she was told that it was given to one Riyaz. Shamina also told her to ask Riyaz, who is said to have agreed to give the gold back.
Meanwhile, Farooq and Naushad, who learnt about the matter through some sources, got her contact number and when the victim came to Moodbidre to meet Riyaz and collect her gold, they called her on her phone and claimed to be friends of Riyaz who had been commissioned with the task of returning her gold.
Believing their story, the lady went with them in auto rickshaw, but on the way the duo dropped the auto driver at his home and one of them drove the auto. They took the woman to a deserted forest area on the way to Karkala and allegedly raped her. Though the place was unknown to her, she managed to escape and took a bus back to Moodbidri and returned home.
However, she did not complain with the police. On Wednesday she said that the accused had threatened to kill her husband and children if she revealed the matter to anyone, and hence maintained silence.
On Wednesday she was admitted to SCS hospital in the city. Moodibidri SI Ramesh Kumar visited the victim and investigated. A case has been registered in Moodibidri police station.
The accused are absconding and a search is on.
