Bp. William was an architect of the faith of the people of Karwar. A Bishop whose undevided attention towards the sufferings of the people as well as the priests of the diocese is his hallmark. He could not see anyone suffuring. His had a dream to dream and a song to sing and that is the reason he toiled till the end. I am proud to say that he layed down his life for the diocese of karwar till the last breath. We all priests, religious and the laity are honoured before GOD for granting us a wonderful bishop. We pray for you Bishop and please send your blessings on the Diocese of Karwar, probably, a special package of blessings from heaven, so that we too may strive to actualist the vission you had for the Diocese. All selute and honour to you Bp. William

As a student of St Joseph's Indian High School, close to St. Patricks Bangalore, late Bishop William De Mello was indeed one who would love to meet and speak, so simple, smiling ever to bring cheer to a worried soul. Even when I met him in Karwar for an SSVP programme, ispite of his health problems, he gave time to once again renew that same smile after 40 years.
I will always cherish the simple ways of one who came to be the shepherd.
    May his Rest In Peace

Bishop William, a dear noble soul, man of wisdom with firm determination to realise the realistic pastoral visions. To me taught what courage meant and fatherly guide to all events of life. But among the many would never would forget the tender slap over my cheek that he gave me on my Chrism day a reminder to abide in the Magisterium. God give me tis strength to carry on the visions vested the footsteps tred without him for one day I shall see him again in Lord's embrace smiling he sayin "Welcome my boy" again. I remain in appreciation and debt...
