Former DMK Minister Arumugam Surrenders for Interrogation

Salem, Jul 25: Senior DMK leader and former minister Veerapandi Arumugam, accused in land grabbing cases, surrendered himself before the district crime branch police for a three-day custodial interrogation on Monday July 25 in connection with cases lodged against him.

Police officials said that Arumugam surrendered himself following a directive from the Madras high court on July 22.

The minister had allegedly evicted over 23 people from a colony in the district to take over the land and the other involving property worth over Rs 85 crore in the area.

The second case against Arumugam and 12 others was filed under various IPC Sections including 147 (punishment for rioting) besides Tamil Nadu Public Properties Damages Act 1994.

Justice G Rajasuria said that in order to obtain bail the former DMK minister should secure two sureties and a bond for Rs 25,000.
