Mangaluru: Traffic chaos at Balmatta Circle, offenders giving slip to cops

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 2: The number of vehicles on the city roads is increasing day by day, leading to frequent traffic congestion, especially during morning and evening hours. Among the main junctions experiencing the worst traffic conditions is Balmatta Circle.

Balmatta Circle serves as a gateway to the city from Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Kerala. It is also surrounded by educational institutions, pubs, and shops, which contributes to the high vehicle and public congestion in the area. With ongoing construction work at Jyoti Circle, the traffic situation worsens at Balmatta Circle.

The convergence of four roads at Balmatta Circle adds to the chaos. At Jyoti Circle, a bus stand is located, where three to four buses are parked throughout the day and night. This leads to delays for other vehicles trying to pass through. Some vehicles attempt to take U-turns, obstructing the flow of traffic coming from Kankanady.

One-way traffic is mandatory for all vehicles at this junction. However, certain drivers ignore the regulation and enter Arya Samaj Road or Swagath Hotel road from Prestige Hotel, going against the designated flow. Initially, police constables were stationed in the area to manage the situation, but the issue persists with vehicles coming from Prestige Hotel.

Traffic police acknowledge that controlling the traffic at Balmatta Circle is a significant challenge. Offenders often escape being booked as other vehicles come in between when the police try to take photographs as evidence.

Vehicles coming from the Sahoday end should turn left and proceed towards Jyoti Circle, but some drivers attempt to go directly towards Prestige Hotel. There used to be a no-entry sign in place, which has been removed by miscreants, according to a traffic constable.

Its simple....Mangalore city infrastructure is not properly planned and roads are not broad. Length and width of Balmatta, MG road, PVS, KS rao road should have planned decades ago. All of a sudden we cant do anything now. Now all we can do is reduce traffic a bit by constructing skybus metro or so....but anyways that wont happen.

Years back city and local service buses coming from Surathkal side used to ply through the KSR Road directly to Hampankatta (bypassing Jyothi Circle). Why was their route changed via Bunts Hostel and Jyothi Circle? It can ease traffic at Balmatta Junction if all buses arriving from Surathkal follow the same old route.

Yes . Government buses entering city via balmata causes heavy traffic . Moodbidre karkala express private bus before they used to go via buntshostel to Jyothi now they are choosing St Agnes - Jyothi . One way Jyothi to falnir might help congestion in Jyoti circle . Bejai ksrctc bus stand would be better for all government buses via nantoor .

Ban all out of state vehicles from plying in the city from 8 a m to 10 p.m. If necessary also out of district vehicles too. That way, we'll have peace.

The traffic near Balmatta Circle is really in a chaotic position. All City and Service buses halt here that too in a haphazard manner blocking the traffic. Moreover number of rikshaws all of a sudden arrives and make it still chaotic. Vehicles are parked along this stretch (opposite to Juice Center) still worsening the situation. The road is very narrow here and its not the proper place to have a bus stop. Even near Hotel Bus stand requires to be shifted as other two and four vehicles struggle if buses stop here. Police Commissioner requires to take proper action regarding this problem.

General lawlessness in the city thanks to authorities taking no interest in such matters. Looks like enjoying their air conditioned life. What are we paying taxes for, is the moot question. For their enjoyment ?

Unscientific planning between Jyothi junction and Balmatta, why is there no signal at Jyothi waiting for a terrible accident like the one at Bendorewell. The main reason at the Balmatta junction choas is corruption, the Upper Bendore road there is no proper footpath, vehicles are parked on both sides at the start of the road near the Balmatta circle. Further on that road you will find vehicles on the footpath causing a great hindrance to pedestrians. Even sign boards are missing and what smart city are we talking off, the no entry sign missing from many years not days Or months. The traffic police have their own reasoning.
