Kerala Temple Treasure: Police Propose Installation of CCTVs at Premises

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 26: A report on the security measures to be taken at the Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy temple, which has been a key issue dogging both the state government and the Supreme Court, has been submitted by the state police.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday July 26, chief minister Oomen Chandy said that the police in their report have detailed steps to be taken in order to ensure security at the Temple.

The temple came into worldwide attention after treasures worth over one lac crore were found in its secret cellars last month. Gold, diamonds, precious jewels and idols were recovered from five chambers following a Supreme Court order, while the sixth and the last vault still remains closed.

Chandy said that the state government will soon take a decision on the security arrangements required at the Temple, after it has examined the report.

He also said that a new post has been created of superintendent of police has been created to head the security team.

Sources said that the police report recommended the installation of CCTVs outside and inside the temple premises, apart from sensory equipment near the cellars, scanners to check materials carried inside the temple, biometric sensors, lasers etc.
