Bangalore: Rebel Activities Begin to Gather Momentum in BJP Camp
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore
Bangalore, Jul 29: The task of resolving the crisis the state BJP plunged into after the Lokayukta report on July 27 is taking new turns with each passing hour. B S Yeddyurappa, chief minister of Karnataka who has not made any public appearance ever since he landed from New Delhi on Thursday morning, is reportedly monitoring the entire situation, and trying to make his camp stronger.
As a first sign of rebel activities within the BJP, 'disqualified' MLA Balachandra Jarakhiholi, who was sent packing by the assembly speaker and later reinstitued by the Supreme Court, reportedly held a meeting of 14 BJP MLAs at a private hotel. Though the exact reason for this separate meeting is not yet known, it is gathered that the 11 'disqualified' MLAs are lobbying for prime posts in the new cabinet, after Yeddyurappa's resignation.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and MP D B Chandregowda told reporters that Justice Santosh Hegde's mining report has lost its sanctity as it was leaked before its formal submission. He opined that the CM should not resign from his post and said that BJP MLAs in the state and also the MPs are united and will convince the high command to reconsider its decision.
In another interesting statement, G Janardhana Reddy exploded a bomb: "If CM Yeddyurappa resigns, the state government will collapse." However, he did not enumerate as to what context he gave this statement.
"If Yeddyurappa goes, then we will follow him " he said. More details on his statement expected soon.
Also, B P Harish, considered close to Yeddyurappa, speaking to media said that, the high command should have consulted the state MLAs before asking Yeddyurappa to resign. He said, "We are meeting senior leaders of BJP who have come from New Delhi. About 60 MLAs and 15 MPs have already decided to meet the high command to convey our opinion. We have great respect for our high command, but we are hurt by this sudden turn of events," he said.
Going by the statements, it seems all is not well within the BJP. Though everyone on the outside is claiming that 'We are united and will abide high command orders' the rebel activities seem to be fast gathering momentum within the party.
May be this could be the reason for Yeddyurappa to buy time till July 31?
