Mangalore, Jul 29:
Three local fishermen who were rescued on Thursday July 28 five days after they went missing, arrived at central railway station here on Friday July 29 by the 8.20 Parashuram Express, much to the delight of their loved ones, who, to say the least, were relieved.

Manohar, one of the rescued fishermen, said that they ventured into the sea at 2 pm on Saturday July 23. At 4 pm on the same day the engine of their boat stopped working, and by 12 am, once they crossed the Kerala border, their communication with the outside world also cut off.

It was only on Thursday at 5 pm after their rescue that they could make a call.

Another fisherman, Francis Frank, said that they were not sure of ever returning to the shore as they did not come across any other boat and had drifted off way out of the normal route. But they finally sighted one boat 'Misiya' belonging to Mutthu, a fisherman of Kozhikode, and waved their clothes as a signal. The boat, carrying six people, move towards them and brought them to safety.

Asked on how they managed to survive the ordeal, Vincy, speaking to Daijiworld, said that they drank rain water and caught fish. They had a matchbox and clothes and some kerosene. They lit fire and cooked the fish using their lunch box as a heating utensil. With all that rain and the cold weather, they did not have a single jacket.

Manohar’s wife Hemavathi said that she did not have any communication with him as she did not have a mobile phone, but through Lavina, sister of Francis Frank she got to know about their miraculous survival. Manohar has a son, Robin, studying in the fifth standard, and a daughter Ankita in the second standard. Vincy and Francis Frank are bachelors.

Speaking to media persons Lavina said that though Laxman Maindan, owner of the Jai Panduranga boat was informed about the incident, he did not take any initiative to send any rescue team, and said he would send a boat only the next day. She also said that the coast guard too could not trace them even after a complaint was registered on July 26 in Panambur police station.

As soon as these fishermen arrived at the railway station, they looked fatigued, shivering and hardly able to talk. Locals gathered in large numbers to welcome them and a few youngsters went on to hug them and provide them hot coffee and cold drinks.

I strongly agree with George Borromeo, angelore, Mangalore. Our Coast guards are of no use. they just shoove away people who come to panambur beach near the rocks giving a reason of terrorist threat n all rubbish.

They saved themselves, its neither God nor the humans, but their will to survive even at despair. That's the spirit of the sailors.Fishermen are the best sailors in the world.
I totally agree with Mr. George Borromeo.

This is great, the fishermen used their intelligence, lucky that they had spare kerosene and match sticks. A minimal survival kit with essentials should be part of all the fishermen boats. all boats could be equipped with GPS chip, will provide both location and security in case of illegal use beyond certain boundary.

God is Great..I saw Hollywood moovie "CAST AWAY" almost 8 years back. It is still fresh in my mind.Tom Hanks, the hero of the film survived plane crash which crashed into sea. He swam to shore which was an island. He survived there for 5 years alone like AADIVASI, ! He makes fire without match box to cook fish. Mind blowing film. Here,it is not a film, but real incident. Drinking rain water reminds me of Tom Hanks.Any way GOD is great.Everyone survived.

Thank God they are alive and kicking that is great.
Rescue effort by the Owner of the Boat, Coast Guard etc., it is fruit less to talk. First of all they are poor fishermen, Not Rich Yacht's owners, or Politically connected. So who bothers for their lives??other than their Family members or close Relatives or Friends.
This is the bare truth dear friends. When a Fisher Men Leader questioned Coast Guard why they have not taken action immediately after getting information about the missing Fishermen, The Commandant said they have not received any Rescue requisition by Fax.
Now let us see, who and how someone in distress can Fax them from sea or from shore?? and they requisite Fisherman's co operation to guard our Coastline. They cant trace a drifting Boat then how can they trace speed boats used by Smugglers or Terrorist or Anti Nationals???????????.
Forget about lousy Coast Guards, let us talk about the Owner of the Boat, did he had any concern for their life he would have sent an rescue Team. They got an Association, for what ???, Only to rule the Fishermen and collect their contribution ?????
So dear poor Fishermen when you are going to sea pray only to God to save you, Some time God may also ignore you, because he is used to receive lot many prayers from our distressed Politicians along with valuable Gifts. What you can offer ?? The last one is the anti dote to my comment.
