Mangalore, Jul 31: A case of burglary at the residential quarters of a nurse working in the Mulky government hospital was reported here on the evening of Friday July 29.

Rs 12,000 in cash and 457 grams of gold worth Rs 9 lac were stolen, along with two ATM cards.

The nurse, Annapurna, had taken quarters near the hospital. She had been to Suratkal on a training programme for three days, during which the thieves broke into her house with a duplicate key and decamped with the valuables. She came to know about the incident only after her return on Friday.

The thieves threw open the cupboard where she had stored her belongings and made away with gold ornaments like earrings, chains, bangles, mangalasutra, pearls, bracelets, coins and rings.

The police suspect that the theft may have been carried out by someone who knew Annapurna and had kept a watch on her movements. The fact that a duplicate key was used also points suspicion at someone familiar with the nurse.

The gold was brought by Annapurna's husband who stays abroad.

Mulky police are investigating.

9 kac worth/ 457 gms gold in the house. This is very strange.

Banks are offering safe lockers and why not make use of that. Partly she has to be blame for this type of crime as she might have exposed her gold wealth to others, never knows who is your friend and you is your foes. Many times friends turn to foes.
