DUBAI, Jul 31 (Gulf Today): After two years, an expatriate father is still desperately searching for his young son, who has been missing since he traveled from the UAE to his native place in the South Indian state of Kerala in 2009.
Kochapurath Majeed, a house driver in Umm Al Quwain (UAQ), and his wife have not heard from their then 22-year-old son Nishad Majeed since he left for Kerala. The computer geek had even not sent out a mail or sent a chat invite to friends from his ‘crazyboy’ yahoo account, since his disappearance.
Nishad, hailing from Kasanakkotta in Kannur district of Kerala, lived in the Emirate for over a year. He had been working as an accountant at his nephew’s real estate firm AR International in UAQ. He left the country without informing his father or his nephew Asad Aboobacker.
“According to official travel records and other reliable proofs we collected for the past two years, Nishad went to India via Dubai International Airport. But, he is believed to have gotten lost in the middle of his journey to our native place,” said the distressed father.
“My son flew to Bangalore on June 27, 2009 by EK 0568 flight of Emirates Airlines at 7.30 evening. On June 28, he boarded IT-2741 Kingfisher Airline flight to Bajpe International Airport in Mangalore, andfrom there he hired a taxi and moved to Mangalore Railway Station to catch a train to our native place,” elaborated Majeed.
“The airport records and taxi driver, who identified Nishad by the photograph we showed him,, confirmed that he landed at Bajpe airport then moved to the railway station. Nobody has seen Nishad after that,” he pointed out.
“We lodged complaints on June 31 in different Indian police stations including Mangalore, Kannur and Calicut, but no evidence has been found out about his whereabouts. We also reported the case at UAQ Police Station, but no inquiry was initiated as Nishad had already left the Emirates,” said Aboobacker.
According to him, Nishad was a smart and trustful employee who even showed the responsibility of depositing Dhs17,500 to the company account at the UAQ branch of CBI Bank on the day he left the country.
“The incident happened on the next day, I returned after a 20-day vacation in India. He took his passport from office with my permission for getting some copies from outside, as the office machine was not working properly. But, he didn’t return after that,” Aboobacker explained.
“He was so emotionally attached to his mother, who is currently in a very pitiful condition due to her son’s disappearance. She and Nishad’s sisters are always in tears, and are constantly praying for his safe return to the family. I also, with the help of my friends and relatives, am desperately trying to track him,” said the worried father.
“We ate food together in our room on the day he disappeared. I still hope my son will rejoin our family soon, and bring relief to us all,” Majeed added.
