Mangalore: Four Satellite Bus Stands Proposed for City

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 2: Regional transport officer, Mallikarjun, said that the district in-charge minister has been approached with a proposal to build four satellite bus stands around the city. He said that this is deemed necessary as there is limited scope for widening of the city roads, and also because of the fact that the growth of the city has been phenomenal since the last some years.

He was speaking after participating as chief guest at the 50th foundation celebration function of Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) here on Monday August 1. Director of Mangalore Airport, M R Vasudeva, and deputy chief labour welfare officer, H Divakar, participated as guests.

Satellite bus stands are smaller versions around the city from where buses leave and return, to ease congestion in the central bus stand. Bangalore has many such bus stations.

Mallikarjun also felt a need to build a few flyovers in the city to ease traffic congestion. He promised to hold consultations with the police department for a concerted action to regulate the plying of contract carriages illegally.

On this occasion, employees of KSRTC, who retired during the year 2010-11, were felicitated.

KSRTC in-charge divisional controller, Yashwant Kumar, senior assistant director of factories, Nanjappa,  and divisional traffic officer, Deepak, were present.
