Mangaluru, Aug 2: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mulliai Muhilan has announced that he will visit all the taluks in the district from the second week of August.
This decision aims to address the inconvenience faced by people traveling long distances to visit his DC office from remote areas of the district. By visiting easily accessible locations, the administration intends to resolve people's problems on the spot, thus eliminating the need for them to travel to Mangaluru for one or two days. The DC office has planned specific visitation days for each taluk headquarters, and a detailed schedule with the time, date, and day of the visit will be communicated to the public through the media.
DC Muhilan made this announcement during the "Meet the Press" program organized by Mangaluru Press Club and Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Association at Mangaluru Press Club on Wednesday, August 2.
Regarding the problems faced on the National Highway within the limits of Mangaluru City Corporation, the DC acknowledged the issue and directed NHAI and MCC to identify hazardous stretches affecting public safety. A joint team will be formed to visit these areas and submit a report. The DC emphasized the need to collaborate and find long-term solutions for traffic issues, in addition to addressing smaller concerns promptly.
Furthermore, the DC highlighted revenue-related problems, land plotting, and Kumki issues. To address forest land matters, a dedicated team consisting of administration and forest department officials will conduct surveys using the GPS system.
The construction of new taluk offices has been completed, but they are yet to become fully functional. The administration is coordinating with the revenue department officials at the state level to gradually relocate operations to these new buildings.
One of the challenges faced is the scarcity of staff in the revenue department of taluks, leading to delays in resolving people's issues. To improve efficiency, the DC plans to create awareness among people about the visiting schedules of officials for each taluk.
Discussing the district's tourism potential, the DC expressed enthusiasm, stressing the need to establish Mangaluru as a prominent tourism brand. To provide tourists with comprehensive information about various spots in the district, the administration intends to create a single-window mechanism and a dedicated web portal for tourism. These initiatives aim to boost tourism in the region.
Present at the event were Mangaluru Press Club President PB Harish Rai, DKWJA Shrinivas Indaje, DKWJA General Secretary Jithendra Kundeshwar, Information Officer Raju, and other officials.
The event was compered by journalist Pushparaj Varthabharathi.
