Mangaluru, Aug 4: When we hear about how drones can be used to deliver goods and different products by companies within a short span of time, here is a 21-year-old youth who has successfully built an autonomous and a standalone drone to deliver Pizzas.
Meet Sohan Rai, an enthusiastic youth who hails from Bejai in the city and someone who has conducted several experiments on drones. Ever since his high school days Sohan Rai was into Drones and Robotics that he ended up successfully designing this food delivering drone.
Sohan claims that the purpose of designing this drone is to create awareness Every person is unaware about how advanced drone technology is in the country and so he says he created awareness through this experiment using the updated technology.
After designing the drone in two weeks, Rai used it for this experiment in which he assumed himself to be a Zomato food delivery boy. He then loaded a Pizza onto his drone and made it fly for about 1.5 kilometers to the exact location of the consumer who had ordered it on a pilot basis.
Once the drone reached the exact location, he called the consumer and asked them to collect the food. He then smoothly landed the drone at the consumer’s place and ejected the food from the drone. The consumer then collected the Pizza from the drone.
Sohan Rai shared this experiment video on his Instagram account. The video went viral and about 10 million of them viewed it.
"Many people are unaware that this technology can be used in real-life but they think this is only an idea. So, to show them that this is actually possible I carried out this experiment. Presently, food is being deliveries by Swiggy and Zomato which has increased tremendously. When food deliveries are increasing even the number of delivery boys employed for the purpose is also increasing. As they are using two-wheelers to deliver food air pollution is likely to increase as more and more people order their food through these means. If these boys use drones pollution will be reduced drastically and a single delivery through a drone will cost just Rs 2 only. Drones can employ GPS to recognise the exact location," says Sohan Rai.
He claims that delivery boys are facing a tough situation while delivering food to consumers as they have to make their way in the dense vehicular traffic of the city and deliver on time. Also, they face challenges in finding the exact location.
