New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS): The opposition Thursday demanded tabling in parliament of the CAG report on irregularities in the Commonwealth Games. It also asked for Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's resignation for alleged irregularities in some contracts.

As soon as the Rajya Sabha met at 11 a.m., members from all opposition parties were on their feet, demanding that the government table the report soon.

"The CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report on the Commonwealth Games should be tabled in parliament," Communist Party of India-Marxist member Brinda Karat said.

Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Prakash Javadekar and AIADMK's V. Maitreyan, along with other opposition members, joined the pitch.

The members were, however, pacified by Chairman M. Hamid Ansari who asked them to let the question hour proceed.

Karat told reporters outside parliament that the Delhi chief minister should leave her post till her name is cleared. "Dikshit must resign till the matter is over."

The CAG report leaked Tuesday also faulted the Prime Minister's Office for letting Suresh Kalmadi run the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.

The report, yet to be tabled in parliament, said the Delhi government and civic agencies overspent Rs.100 crore on streetscaping and Rs.31 crore on street lighting.

The BJP also reiterated its demand for Dikshit's resignation.

"After the Shunglu Committee, it is now the CAG that has seriously indicted her. These are independent agencies not appointed by the BJP or any other party, but the government. She must face the law and leave the post," BJP leader Tarun Vijay said.

However, the Delhi government Wednesday defended Dikshit, saying the media report quoting the CAG report "does not give facts accurately".

The 2010 Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi Oct 3-14.
