Mangalore: Thieves Gag Boy, Steal Ornaments worth Three Lac Rupees

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 8: Unknown thieves entered a house in Pajeer Perna near Konaje here in the wee hours of Sunday August 7. They succeeded in taking away about 15 sovereigns of gold ornaments. Total value of the ornaments stolen has been estimated at three lac rupees. Mother-in-law of Denis Alphonse, owner of the house in question, and his ten-year-old son, were the only occupants of the house when the theft occurred, even though in normal course, five people live there.

Rosalyn D’Souza, mother-in-law of Denis, his wife, Dody, son, Denver, Denis’ brother, Everest, and Everest’s wife, Flavia, live in the house. Denis is employed in a foreign country. While Dody was away on a visit to a relative’s home, Everest and Flavia had left to attend the prayers at the local church, when the incident occurred. Reportedly, two persons approached Denver, who was having breakfast and watching television, and enquired with him for directions to the house of Everest. After the boy said that Everest lives in this house, the strangers waited outside.

When the boy went inside to keep the plate in his hand away, one of the strangers came inside the house and started sifting through the alimirah. It is said that the other person waited outside. When Denver came back and tried to raise an alarm on seeing what the men were up to, the man waiting outside reportedly shut his mouth tight with his hand, and tied up his hands. Rosalyn, who heard the commotion, came outside. Seeing her, the thieves made good their escape, along with the gold jewellery they could lay their hands on, it is gathered.

Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were summoned. Konaje police have registered a case. Investigation has been taken up.

O ya, this is a shameful business. I think so that Johnson is right because many fishy details in this story. How thieves knew home inmates names otherwise?

Agree with comments thousand percent. Displaying jewellery is dangerous business nowadays. But what to do, after purchasing the jewellery one is forced to wear it or keep it. Otherwise of what purpose.

Hope the authorities nab these villains who have no shame or compassion.

I think this is a act of some one known to the family and also knew jewelery war where. It's better to fit some loud alarm so that neighbour's will be alerted when there are only young or old people in the house.

@Prakash, you are hundred into hundred times corect definitely something fishey going on here. there movements were most definitely being watched. how else to explain that while the youngest and oldest family member were home only, the desperedoes have struck? they waited till they knew everest and wife were at church. also, how to explain that they asked for everest by name? they showed familiarness so that poor boy thought they might be known to his uncle and turned his trusting back on them to go put his plate away. whether family realizes it or not, these desperedoes are known to them. thanks God that they left when grandmother was alerted and did not attempt more sinistre things!!

Sorry to see this sad turn of events. These dastardly thieves have neither conscience nor shame. I concur with @Prekash that Mr. Padiyatil is right. Having Godrej is effective only if used properly. Seeing how ruthless and unscrupulous people are these days, it is up to us to safeguard our selves and propeties.

Hope the desperadoes can be nabbed and hard-earned property recovered.

    This story recalls the lines

    Pity would be no more
If we did not make somebody poor,
And Mercy no more could be
If all were as happy as we.

This is by William Blake in The Human Abstract. Otherwise someone might characterize an apt and inspired quote to be plagiarism.

Unless i am very much mistaken, in the first phote, their godrej has a safe built-in. but look closely, and you see that the key is in the lock. a safe with a key left in the lock is not safe it is a metal drawer.
mr. rudolf of bantwal is hundred into hundred times corect! in these day and age, displaying booty openly only invites desperedoes to make a daring act. such a shame to see native place loose its innocense!

This is a wakeup call for all houses housing senior citizens and small children. Take care of installing a second iron door wherein no stranger unless identified should be allowed inside the house. The days of keeping the house open at all times to enjoy fresh air and scenery are gone for us Mangloreans too!! Secondly, I am surprised at the family keeping such large amount of jewels in the house. It is inviting trouble as these burglars do their homework perfectly before targeting their prey. In this case too they seem to have been fairly certain of the booty! Display of too much jewellery only invites trouble nowadays as one comes on the hit list of these criminals! Please please lodge all your valuables including excess cash in bank lockers!! Many a times lives also could be lost coz these desperedoes could go to any extent if resisted during the act!!!!
