Rogers Cup: Sania falters at final qualifying round


Toronto (Canada), Aug 8 (IANS) India's Sania Mirza faltered at the final women's singles qualifying round of the Rogers Cup tennis.

Seeded 11th, Sania went down fighting 7-6(5), 5-7, 3-6 to Kathrin Woerle of Germany.

In the doubles, Sania is seeded fifth with Russia's Elena Vesnina and they open against Italians Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci (ITA).

In the men's doubles, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are seeded third and have got a bye. They play the winner of the match between Spaniards Marc Lopez and Rafael Nadal and Czech Tomas Berdych and German Florian Mayer.

Also in the fray are fifth-seeded pair of Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan's Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, who too have a bye. They play the winner of the match between Australia's Paul Hanley and Bruno Soares of Brazil and Czech Lukas Dlouhy and Nicolas Almargo of Spain.
