Tehran, Aug 9 (IANS): Iran plans to launch another satellite dubbed Sharif, designed by the students of one of its leading scientific institutions, an official said.
The satellite, currently under development at the Industrial Sharif University, will be launched when it is capable of orbiting 36,000 km above the Earth's surface, the Mehr news agency reported Monday quoting Reza Roustazad, the chancellor of the institution.
He added that Iran's satellites could not stay in space for a longer period because they failed to orbit the Earth's surface above the altitude of 36,000 km.
Hence efforts should be made to increase the launch power of satellites so they could stay longer in space, he told the ISNA news agency in an interview published Monday.
He said Iran's first satellite stayed in space for only two months but the second one stayed longer. However, the report did not say when they were launched.
