New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS) The Supreme Court Tuesday issued notices to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and the Indian Medical Association in a case related to admissions for the current academic session in an army medical college in Delhi Cantonment.

The Army College of Medical Sciences (ACMS) has approached the court for stay on the Delhi High Court's interim order related to admitting students in the academic year 2011-12.

The apex court bench of Justice Altamas Kabir, Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice S.S. Nijjar issued notice after senior counsel Jaideep Gupta said the high court July 28 passed the interim order ignoring the ACMS' plea that it did not intend to admit any student in the current academic year.

The court has given the university and the IMA four weeks to respond to the plea by the ACMS.

The high court's interim order was passed on a petition by the Indian Medical Associations (IMA) that sought direction to the ACMS to admit students in the light of the apex court verdict of May 12.

By that verdict, the apex court declined the ACMS plea that it should be allowed to admit only the children of serving and retired army personnel and war widows.

On Tuesday, the apex court was told that the high court passed its interim order despite being told that the ACMS had sought a review of the apex court's May 12 judgment.

The case would be heard next July 26.
