New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) The government Wednesday accepted that the process of probing rape cases in India was not free of loopholes, but said efforts were being made to ensure fair investigation.
"All efforts are made to ensure fair investigation in such crimes, although there have been reports (of) anomalies ... and alleged use of influence," Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitendra Singh said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
The minister added that all state governments have been advised to give swift punishment to those found guilty and to deploy a woman police officer to handle rape victims.
He added that all state departments concerned have also been advised to be alert to all stages from registering a complaint, forensic examination, counselling to victims, legal assistance and rehabilitation.
