Mangaluru: Konkani Natak Sabha holds 3rd Voviyo Verse competition

Mangaluru, Sep 11: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) conducted its 3rd Voviyo Verse competition at Don Bosco Hall here on Sunday September 10 as part of its annual competitions.

The event commenced with the KNS anthem and was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp.

Liston D’Souza, vice president of KNS extended a warm welcome to the guests, judges, participants and the attendees.

Gretta Rebello, former vice president of Konkani Natak Sabha and Stany Bela, production director of Daijiworld media were the guests for the event. Liston D'Souza, vice president of KNS, Floyd D'Mello, general secretary, Cletus Lobo, assistant secretary and competition convenor James Dsouza accompanied by the competition judges were present on the dais.

Addressing the gathering, Gretta Rebello appreciated the efforts put by KNS in organising various cultural activities and competitions all these years. She also wished the best to all the teams taking part in the competition.

Stany Bela was delighted and appreciated the efforts put by KNS in setting up such a wonderful traditional stage for the competition. He said, “This competition will be a treasure for the upcoming generation. This is not only a competition, but also an exhibition of richness of the Konkani culture and tradition. I salute all the teams for participating and wish them all success.”

A symbolic ‘Roce’ ceremony was held with the anointing of oil and application of pure coconut juice led by Cletus Lobo as ‘Yezman’ and Judith D’Souza Angelore former general secretary and life member of KNS as ‘Yezmani’ supported by Grishma Melisha Saldanha as bride and Shaunna D'Sa, Simona D'Sa, Freya D’Souza and Tiara Rebello as Bridesmaids.

Seven teams from Angelore, Bajjodi, Cordel, Jeppu, Manjeshwar, Maryashram and Moodbidri took part in the competition.

Maxim Rodrigues Bondel, Victor Correa Derebail and Anil Monteiro Paldane served as the esteemed judges for the competition.

The competition received valuable support from Joseph Theodore, Alwyn D'Souza Bajal, Deliya Ivin Crasta, Herbert D'Souza Cascia, Glanny D'Souza Bajal and assistance from KNS managing committee members and KNS unit members.

KNS manager Boniface Pinto handled the computation of scores.

Joseph Theodore introduced the judges and Liston D'Souza announced the results. Floyd D’Mello compered the programme and concluded with vote of thanks.

The KNS will hold its 59th singing competition (Grand Finale) on September 17, 9.30am onwards. The 80th annual day celebration of KNS will be held on September 24, 4pm onwards followed by prize distribution and ‘Carmel Second Street’ Konkani drama as part of the entertainment.

The competition will be later telecasted episode-wise from mid-September every Monday 9 pm to 10 pm on Daijiworld TV 24×7.

- Second place: Team Jeppu
