Bengaluru, Sep 12: Instead of talking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi not responding to State Government’s letter seeking an appointment for meeting the all-party delegation on the Cauvery issue, the Siddaramaiah government must convince the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on the ground realities in Karnataka and the State’s inability to release water, BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai said on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons at the State BJP office before the senior party leaders meeting, in which former chief ministers B S Yediyurappa and D V Sadananda Gowda and State BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel participated, he said there is no point in blaming the Prime Minister for not responding to the State Government’s letter seeking an appointment for the all-party leaders team to meet him as the issue was currently pending before the Supreme Court.
The State Government must realise that the Prime Minister cannot intervene in a matter in a matter pending before the apex court, he said.
The former BJP chief minister said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah must convince Stalin as he is their INDIA opposition partner on the State’s difficulties in not releasing the Cauvery waters.
The State Government has filed an affidavit before the apex court that it is unable to release Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu after September 12. “Let us see how long they will stick to their stand,’’ he said.
Bommai said the government has failed the farmers of Karnataka and is not firmly asserting that Tamil Nadu has used more water than needed and this point should have been told to the Cauvery monitoring authority.
The BJP leader said the Planning and Statistics Minister Dr Sudhakar must resign if he has abused the Dalit community instead of filing cases against them for levelling allegations against him.
He said the people want BJP and JD(S) to come together and fight unitedly as they are fed up with the maladministration of the Congress government. The BJP high command and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda will decide on the seats and other issues before the Lok Sabha polls.
Bommai attacked the Congress government for dilly-dallying on declaring the drought affected taluks as it wants to delay the drought relief measures.
'Alliance with JD(S) inevitable for fight against 'cursed' Cong govt in Karnataka'
Basavaraj Bommai said on Tuesday that the alliance with JD (S) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is 'inevitable' to put a brake on the mismanagement of Congress government in the state.
Bommai added that the people of Karnataka want the two opposition parties -- BJP and JD(S) -- to fight upcoming Lok Sabha elections together.
"The discussion is needed for its (alliance) pros' and cons in future. A decision will be taken in this regard by the top leaders of both the parties."
Speaking about Congress' taunt that both BJP and JD(S) are in a helpless state, Bommai said, "Currently, INDIA opposition alliance is united. Those who hated each other such as the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, CPI, CPI (M), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, all have come together. Are they helpless? Many changes have taken place in the history of politics."
Reacting to a query on a Congress MLC stating about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah meeting top BJP leader L.K. Advani, Bommai said, "CM Siddaramaiah had given answer in this regard."
"He (Siddaramaiah) had claimed that if one meets leaders from other parties, the ideologies won't shift. What does it mean?" Bommai asked the media.
