Udupi, Aug 17:
Abdul Azeed, a native of Kodikanyana, near here, has been in a Saudi Arabian prison for nearly two years now, apparently for no mistake of his. Often he has to go without adequate food besides undergoing rigorous punishment.

Azeed is the son of Saban and Nibisa residing at Kodikanyana, near Sastan here. He had gone to Saudi Arabia to work as a tanker driver two-and-a-half-years ago, dreaming of a better life for his family back home.

It was during the course of his duty that the main axle of his tanker broke and it came to standstill on the highway and a car that was behind it hit the tanker. The car was gutted in the fire and two of its occupants died in the mishap.

Abdul Azeed was told to pay Rs 25 lac or suffer imprisonment. At the time he had just been working for six months in Saudi Arabia and had hardly any savings. In such a situation, arranging the money was a distant dream. Two years have passed since then and he is hoping for his release day and night. He cannot even call up his family back home.

Azeed had left for Saudi Arabia within three months of his wedding. He was working as a bus driver in his native village. He had the ambition of supporting his parents, three sisters, and a lone brother.

Azeed has urged the Indian expatriate community to use the good offices of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and also the Indian Embassy at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to secure his release and find him a new lease of life.

Dear Gambheer, nimma maatu gambheera vagi yochisa beka dantaha maatu.

    could be.

The problem with GCC is common man does not know what is the law? whom to contact and where to contact.

so be the traffic rules. today two ways. fine morning one way. free right not there, but the person from the opposite side, for him there is free left.

Total Ambiguity . In azeed case on what ground judgement is done dont know. Its a prejudice made palusible. Such things discourages people coming and serving in the country. Paapi pet ka sawal hai. kya kare

Brother abdul azeed, I will pray for you. I pray for the smiles and twinkles in your eyes back joining your happy and beautiful family.

If we want to help Abdul Azeed, we must know the police charges and the copy of the judgement, if there is a verdict. If Mr. Abdul Azeed has insurance coverage, the insurance company in Saudi Arabia has to pay the blood money. If he has Pravasi Bharatiya Bhima Insurance, a compulsory insurance for all those who are going abroad for work for the first time, this will also helpful. If any of Mr.Azeed's relatives/friends are in Riyadh, I shall help him sort out the issues. At present I am on vacation in Trivandrum (Mob: 9562916653). From 27th August onwards I will be available at my mobile 0506066493

Very sad story. Abdul is suffering for no fault of his own - what a shame!. After all, what he could do if the axle of the truck broke and thus it came to a sudden halt. After all, the universal traffic rule is that it is the duty and responsibility of the vehicle that is following, to always maintain enough distance from the vehicle in front so as to ensure safety in the event the front vehicle had to suddenly apply brakes and come to a halt due to any reason or some mishap. In this particular case, definitely the car driver, behind, was at fault, and I really don`t understand how Abdul can be held responsible. What sort of law is this? Also, should the money needs to be paid to the deceased`s family according to the Saudi Law, it is appropriate that the owner of the Truck or the Insurance Company should meet such demand. I hope the Indian Embassy in Riyadh looks into this genuine matter and Abdul is promptly released from the Jail.

    Somethings fishy...........

Dont u guys think that Saudi Govt is trying to suppress poor Indians by doing all these tricks......?
errr i would say that why only Indians are punished? Why always Indians are blamed for no mistakes of theirs? Why the Saudi Govt doesn't Analyse the the whole case and then come to conclusion...?

Don't you guys think its a pre-planned act to collect revenue?

These type of illegal detentions are getting common nowadays especially in KSA. Shocking that even the sponsors shy away when it comes to paying blood money. A lesson to be learnt from this is better to slog in your home country and eat half a bread instead of trying one's luck in such countries where the locals can frame anyone without sufficient cause and jail them for years together asking for unreasonable blood money!! I pray Abdul is released soon and back with his anxious wife and parents!!
