Kolkata, Aug 17 (IANS) Former Left Front minister Sushanto Ghosh, arrested in West Bengal's Midnapore skeleton case and admitted to hospital, was discharged Wednesday.

Ghosh was sent to seven-day police custody by a Midnapore court Aug 11.

As Wednesday is the last day of remand and he is to be presented in court, his discharge from the state-run SSKM Hospital was sought by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the state police.

Ghosh was brought out of the hospital in a wheel chair.

Earlier, a board of doctors was constituted to ascertain the medical condition of Ghosh who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital after tests revealed he had high blood pressure.

Ghosh was arrested after the West Midnapore chief judicial magistrate's court cancelled his anticipatory bail granted earlier by the Calcutta High Court.

In June, seven skeletons were recovered near Ghosh's house and that led to the arrest of two of his aides.

Ghosh himself took anticipatory bail after a villager, Shyamal Acharya, filed a police complaint that one of the skeletons was of his father Ajay Acharya.

The former minister was one of the 40 people named in the first information report (FIR) which claimed that Ajay and some other members of the Trinamool Congress were attacked by the 40 armed accused allegedly belonging to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Sep 22, 2002.

Seven of the Trinamool Congress members were later brutally killed, the FIR said.

The victims, including Ajay Acharya, were untraceable since then. On June 4, the skeletons were recovered from near a pond in Mallickdanga area of West Midnapore district.

Two days later, Shyamal Acharya claimed he could identify one of the skeletons as that of his father on the basis of the dress and teeth.

A case was started against the 40 people, including Ghosh, June 6 on the basis of the FIR.

Ghosh is to be presented in the West Midnapore chief judicial magistrate's court Wednesday.
