Bangalore, Aug 17: Having got rid off its Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa over the Lokayukta’s report on illegal mining, the Karnataka unit of ruling BJP has decided to launch agitations supporting social activist Anna Hazare’s campaign against corruption.
State party General Secretary C T Ravi and media in-charge S Prakash said the state unit BJP Yuva Morcha would take out a torch light procession here on August 19 while the BJP Mahila Morcha would take out a rally on August 20.
Protests across Karnataka in support of Anna Hazare
All party leaders and workers would stage dharna in all the 224 assembly constituencies in the state on August 22 condemning the detention of Gandhian activist Anna Hazare.
Various wings of the state ruling party such as IT Cell, farmers’ wing, legal cell and others would also hold agitations supporting Hazare’s campaign against corruption, they said.
The Congress-led UPA regime headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has failed to gauge the public anger against rampant corruption in all levels of administration and the Centre was not fully equipped to deal with the team Anna’s movement against corruption, Ravi said.
He alleged that by ordering detention of the social activist before he began his fast in support of stronger anti-corruption provisions in the Lokpal Bill and the subsequent arrest of a large number of peaceful protestors in Delhi, the government has only demonstrated its ugly colour.
Answering questions regarding the corruption charges and also allegations of nepotism and other irregularities against Yeddyurappa and the ruling party’s silence despite the chief minister and another four ministers being indicted by the Lokayukta in the illegal mining, Ravi said the BJP would never support corruption or protect any leader who has indulged in corruption.
He, however, stongly defended the induction of V Somanna into the ministry stating that the Lokayukta report on illegal mining, which has indicted him, had not recommended his removal from the ministry.
