Koppal: Rajesh Bhat Turns Illiterate Villagers into BPO Employees

Daijiworld Media Network

Koppal, Aug 18: At 27, when most people are busy establishing their careers and trying to get ahead in life, here is a software engineer who has made it his mission to put the lesser fortunate on the path of success, through education.

Rajesh Bhat with his 'Head Held High Foundation' in Koppal district of Karnataka, has been changing lives of young villagers in an innovative way.

Koppal is one of the most backward districts in Karnataka and the main purpose of the foundation is to to turn the illiterate villagers into BPO employees.

Rajesh aims to ensure that youngsters in villagers are able to stand on their own feet and live with dignity.

Rajesh earlier had a tech job with a good salary at Onmobile, a Bangalore based company. He gave up the job and along with his mentor Sunil Savara started the venture and trained eight people initially.

After achieving the initial success, Rajesh and his friends then opened the centre in Koppal. At the centre, students are taught English, Mathematics, logic, life skills and the basics of personal grooming.

"We did something called village reach programme where people we trained went back to their villages and trained 900 kids in 31 different villages," Rajesh told CNN-IBN.

Yankamma, a fruit seller and domestic help, today gives lessons in English to her son. She had earlier come to the centre in search of a job.

The centre has so far reached 113 students who get inducted into the BPO setup at the centre itself.

About his plans for the centre, Rajesh told, "In 2011, we're looking at training 500 people from two different states. Our intention is to see whether we can work in the 100 most backward districts in India."

Thanks All - Ashenoy,Mohan Naik,Fredrik Corree, Durgadas Suvarna,Peter. I certainly appriciate both Rajesh Bhat and Mr. Peter. Let us talk about some constructive work. Philip said he has 70 acres in Mangalore and 65 Ares in Kumta. I would like to invest a sum of Rs.10 lacs for the agricultral activities and devote my time also. I do not want any returns next five years including my expenses. After five I may review my decision depending upon my family financial position. I am ready to all my assets and wanted to become very very transferent - any suggestions will be accptable. Unless we sacrify noting is possible build anything. Can we have Co-operative society with like minded people to fulfill the ambitions of Philip. Whether Philip can lead the team ? I am open for any such things. My contact no.9845700815 for further discussions. This is from my side to build the nation and save our Anna Data.

Turning villages/farmers into BPO workers indeed is not progress. Agriculture is much more important to grow food and feed the hungry. The IT people cannot buy food if there is no agriculatural produce available. We need to think in a direction of sustainability in agriculture. Our school systems must give priority to agicultural teachings, just like how the system glamourises doctors, engineers and other professions. As far as agriculture is concerned Mahatma Gandhi's teachings and phylosophy is important- agricuture gives us food, industrialisation does not.

Rajesh and Sunil had done a very good job.

When a person is illiterate, uneducated, then there is no difference between animal and human beings.

Rajesh and Sunil have invested their valuable time and part of their life, giving training, education and literacy to to most under privildedged people of Kappal district. You have changed these labourers into skilled persons. This is very great job and only those involved in selfless social work will understand it.

We wish you all the best. God bless you and your family and studetns. Great Job.

Philip , i agree with you.
But the whole concept of 'farming' need to be changed. Yes, we call farmer annadhata. But no one care how he lives. What needs to be done is, 'Agriculture/Farming' should become a profession.Thats only possible, if this sector turns out to be a profit making one, like IT/BT etc. The start of the early days of post independence india were promising. The green revolution is an example. However the following days, took away the zeal and charm of farming.
Mechanised farming, cooperative farming can be a solution. This again need dedication and corruption free government support. The present subsidies are doing more harm than good to the farming sector.

Dear all, Let us not mix up two issues of education and agriculture. What Rajesh and Sunil have done is praiseworthy. I am sure someone like Rajesh and Sunil will come up to solve the problem of agriculture. Recently students were taken to the fields and they worked alongside the farmers. I am sure some more initiatives will come up to make our Karnataka a prosperous state.

Philip, Kumta do you think that the people who are into agriculture are meant to do only agriculture work. I agree with you to some extent, but in this case it's definately a great work done by Mr Bhat as he turned illiterate villagers into BPO employees. Also those illiterate villagers have gained more knowledge now due to becoming BPO employees.

Rajesh Bhat I can understand you are literate, have you ever thought about agriculture which brings crops, which is more important than BPO jobs. I have about 65 acre of land in my native place Kumta and my wife is from Mangalore she is having above 70 acre of land, which we left as barren. Everyone wants to be doctor, engineer, etc then who will be in grains production which pride requirement of our life. Govt. does not support to the farmers, if you have money that is useless without farmers, because they produce grains and for not having governtment support farmers are committing sucide. Because of that everyone wants become IT engineer or engineers in one or the other field, then who will produce grain. Do not thing you have done a tremendous job for helping to take up a BPO jobs. If you are an literate person thing in a positive way. We need farmers and not engineers or professonals.
