Mangalore, Aug 18:  Protests, Silent Processions, demonstrations and rallies were held by different organizations in the city for a single cause, demanding the speedy introduction of strong Lokpal Bill.

The protesters also denounced the Government’s act of arresting Gandhian Anna Hazare. The prominent organizations which organized the protests included the Mangalore Bar Association, South Kanara Photographers’ Association, Karnataka Rakshana Vedhike, Jayakarnataka Association among others.

The Mangalore Bar Association organized a silent parade from the district court to the DC’s office on Thursday August 18.

Addressing the protesters the president of the association S P Chengappa said that the members of the association will be the always there to voice against the illegal and unlawful acts in the city as well as country.
Though India has got freedom many years ago it has still not got the much needed political freedom, he remarked.

Noting the various scams like 2G Spectrum, common wealth games, and so on, in which the members of Union Government are involved, he said that the Government for no appropriate reason has rejected the Lokpal Bill several times, that shows  how clean it is, he added.
The Jayakarnataka Association also held a protest in front of the DC’s office backing Team Anna. They burned an effigy of PM Manmohan Singh expressing their anguish.

The equivalent of Jan Lokpal at the center is the Lokayukta. Karnataka is one of the few states to have enacted a Lokayukta Bill and a strong one at that. We have seen how Justice Hegde was able to bring a corrupt CM to book in our state. If there is a strong Jan Lokpal at center, we should be able to avoid the kind of humongous scams such as CWG, 2G, etc. Anna Hazare has been a social worker and reformer in Maharahstra for almost 4 decades now, having brought about the RTI Bill earlier. All Indians should support this Bill for a better India.

Fantastic comments By Mr.Naveen Shetty, Mangalore.
" When people are paying the bribe? When they are at a wrong side of the law."

So those who have paid money, as we call them corruption, also in the wrong side. When it affect us, we have hundreds of reasons to cover it up But we only preach others as if we are clean & pure like Holy River Ganga.

Shri Mark, mangalore, Here is the Times OF India report about Lokpal Bill: - NEW DELHI: The Lokpal is a body with a chairperson who is or was a Chief Justice of India and eight other members.

The Lokpal Bill, an effort to rein in the pervasive corruption in public life, was first floated in the late 60s, but failed to become law despite successive attempts.

Implementation of the Lokpal bill will hopefully reduce corruption in India.

The basic idea of the Lokpal is borrowed from the office of the ombudsman in other countries.

It provides for filing complaints of corruption against ministers and members of parliament with the ombudsman.

The government's Lokpal Bill has kept the Prime Minister and the judiciary as well as conduct of MPs in Parliament out of the ambit of the anti-corruption watchdog. The PM, however, will come under the purview of Lokpal after he demits office.

The bill gives permission to Lokpal to probe any Union minister or officials of Group 'A' and above rank without any sanction.

According to the government's draft, the body will have a chairperson and eight members, including four judicial members - who will be former or sitting judges of Supreme Court or chief justices of the high court.

The Lok Ayuktas in the states does not come under the purview of this bill as the Centre cannot intervene in the powers of the state.

The Lokpal will have its own prosecution and investigation wing with officers and staff necessary to carry out its functions.

I think these demonstrations are more anti-government than supporting the ideal of an anti corrupt lokpal bill. I totally agree with Rony's comments. Its a show for some people's own benefit.

These are politically motivated protests and are taking advantage of the situation. These are the same lawyers (not all) who bribe the judiciary and win the case for their client. If they are genuinely concerned of corruption why can’t they locally protest against corruption. It look like they are more determined to pull down the UPA govt than eradicating corruption. Dont try to pull down either State Govt. Or Central Govt. Let them complete their full tenure. Wait for next election and don’t vote corrupt govt. Let us respect our constitution and avoid unnecessary elections.

I find surprising pepole commenting against the pepole who are fighting against corruption. Really I doubt pepole who are critising live in India or abroad. And Its not necessary for the pepole to know detailed Jan lok pal bill to support Anna Hazare. If you trust the man & his action is more than enough to support & fight with him.

    @Haorld D'cunha, Mangalore, India
I think you have not understood the real cause for the demonstration, cause is:
    1. Introduction of strong Lokpal
    2. Anna's arrest
Here question does not arise of double standard since this movement started from civil society not by any political party.....
framing a strong law is very important,it should not be for individual's satisfaction or eyewash. If there is a law then majority will fallow otherwise everybody is trying to preach only.....?

I am not at all cynic about these protests march in support of Anna Hazare. After all these protests brings awareness amongst public about a cause, this time is against Corruption.

In this above photograph, most of the protesters are working members. First question how many members present here are clean, corrupt free.

Here Mr.S P Chengappa, the Mangalore Bar Association why not spelled the corrupt State ministers involved in mining scam, land grabbing etc. This is nothing but double standard and lacks honesty but seems instant photographic popularity.

Before we preach, one should practise. Otherwise we are also supporting corruption and nothing less than hypocrites, double standard.
