Karkala: College Students 'Chained' for Stealing Gold Jewellery

Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Aug 19: The Karkala police succeeded in arresting two college students who allegedly visited a jewellery shop in the town a few days back in the guise of prospective customers, and took away four gold chains worth Rs 1,13,500. The arrests were made on Thursday August 18.

The arrested have been identified as Immanuel Pradip (22) from Hebri, and Shivananda Nayak (22), a resident of Puttur Purusharakatte. Both of them are students of a college in Puttur.

The jewellery shop owner said that Pradip came to his Santosh Jewellery in Kabettu here at around 7.30 pm on August 13, and enquired whether his family members had called the shop. He also asked for gold chains. After four different chains were shown to him, he asked to see a bigger chain. Shobha, who was the only person available at the shop at the time, growing suspicious, clicked Pradip's photograph while pretending to call the shop owner.

By the time a bigger chain was brought out and shown, Pradip reportedly took away all the four chains, ran to a motorbike driven by Shivananda Nayak that was waiting nearby, and fled the scene, as per the version of the shop owner.

The policemen succeeded in arresting the accused and his accomplice on the basis of the photograph. All the four gold chains and the motorbike in which the two had sped away, were confiscated from the arrested youngsters.

Udupi district superintendent of police, Dr Y S Ravikumar, has praised the timely action taken by deputy superintendent of Karkala, Santosh Kumar, circle inspector, Vijaya Prasad, police sub-inspector, Ravi B S, other police personnel, as well as Shubha K, who had clicked the photograph of the thief, which helped in solving the case within five days.

This was only possible due to the telecom policy of the NDA and UPA. Otherwise who would have had mobile phones in small villages in India. Thanks to late Promod Mahajan and Ex minister Raja we have 700 million people with phones in their pockets.

    Few questions here:
In this case, the robbers are Pradip & Sivananda. Both had robbed 4 chains and Ms. Shubha K clicked the photograph of the robber Pradip.

Is Shubha is working for grocery shop or telephone booth or gold jewellery shop. AS this shop is jewellery, is the owner will allow her to work alone in the jewellery shop and allow to show the gold chain to the customer while she is alone. This seems to me something very snubbish and it might be owners carelessness or Shubha's over smart character. She should not have shown the gold ornament to the customer while she was alone as she is dealing with gold ornament.

No doubt, appreciate Shubha's photo clicking of Pradip but the credit should also be given to police for tracking the culprits. Good work done by police.

Exactly yes M/S Ramya Shetty,Nitte,Sales person should be praised and given reward for her time conscious and presence of mind which lead them to nab.

The important thing is those two in guise of prospective gold buyers were remained as buyer instead of robber as they are lacking Technic of stealing and robbing. It is unfortunate that both are students who supposed to study in the educational institution instead CHAKKI ..........in Jail.

First the shop Owner deserves to give Ms.Shobha a very well deserved reward, he presence of mind is commendable, and even the Karkal police show honour this smart girl, who will be a eye opener for others, she could have just ignored and called for help when the guy had run away, words are not enough for praise for this girl, but for the photograph this would not have solved the problem. Hope the owner realises the work done by this smart girl.

Ramya Shetty, Nitte, Karkala. Agree with you. The credit should go to Ms.Shubha K. If not for the photograph, the chains would have been sold and would have been difficult to catch them as they were from different place.

It must've been a hidden camera or the youngsters must've been a pair of dumb  to go ahead with their plan even after getting photographed. Shobha's presence of mind is admirable nevertheless.

Ms. Shubha K may be praised instead of praising police people for the courage she had for clicking photo. The shop owner may be praised her by increasing her salary or awarding her.
