Mangalore, Aug 26: "
Media has a predominant role to play in retaining the essence of religion, culture, and history. In this regard, Vijaya Karnataka is taking appreciable step," opined Sri Dharmapalanatha Swamiji of Shree Adichunchanagiri Shakha Mutt.

He spoke after distributing prizes to the winners of ‘Vijaya Karnataka-Ideal Muddukrishna Contest’ at Vijaya Karnataka office here on Thursday August 25. This contest was organized by 'Vijay Karnataka', for the first time in the history of Kannada journalism.

"The newspaper deserves to be appreciated for bringing before the people the form of Lord Krishna in his younger days through this contest. Krishna took birth in this land over 5,000 years ago. The children have really made us feel like we are in the age of this incarnation of the Lord, by reminding us about his divine plays through their faltering talk, behaviour that is bereft of fear or anxiety, and their movements which attract one and all towards them," he added.

Hundreds of tiny Krishnas had taken part in the contest from nooks and corners of the coastal belt of Karnataka. The office of the daily looked like a kindergarten, with small, naughty kids moving around with eyes wide open in awe and out of innocence. Parents of the prize-winning kids were also present in consideable numbers.

DK district Kannada Sahithya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura presided. Judges Yajna Mangalore, Ganesh Somayaji, Vidyashree Radhakrishna, resident editor U K Kumarnath, and D Ramakrishna were present.

Senior sub-editor A Krishna Bhat welcomed. P B Harish Rai read out the names of winners. Mohammed Arif Padubidri delivered the vote of thanks while B Ravindra Shetty compered the programme.

K P Aryan Avharya, Kodikal, Mangalore, bagged the first prize while Chinmayi H Darbe came in second.  Nihal Marady bagged the third prize.
