Mangalore, Aug 30:
The feast of St Jeanne Jugan, the founder of the Little Sisters of the Poor was celebrated on Tuesday August 30 at the home for the aged at Bajjodi, here.

The concelebrated mass with nine priests was presided over by Fr Denis Prabhu, the vicar general of the diocese of Mangalore.

Fr Lawrence D'Souza in his homily appreciated the efforts of the Little Sisters of the Poor in giving a new lease of life to the elderly.

He also urged the gathering to follow in the footsteps of St Jeanne Jugan and lead a simply but meaningful life, helping those in need.

After the Mass the elderly residents of the home presented a play on the life of St Jeanne (1792-1879) depicting the origin of the homes for the aged which are now spread all over the world.

Inmates of the home presented the life of St Jeanne Jugan who looked after the aged despite her poverty.

The home for the aged at Bajjodi was started about 33 years ago. The elderly poor, who have no one to look after them, are admitted to the home. The Little Sisters of the Poor take care of them selflessly. The home is run on donations received from the public.

There was also a comedy skit by the residents of the home and a group dance. Dr Jerome Pinto welcomed. Sr Carmel delivered vote of thanks. Fr Peter Noronha, Fr Anthony Serrao, Fr Marcel Pinto among others were present.
