Udupi, Nov 16: Preliminary investigations suggest that the quadruple murder accused international airlines flight attendant Praveen Chowgule (37) was an over-possessive person and the murder was triggered by jealousy and animosity, highly placed sources in the police department have disclosed.
Praveen was nabbed from Belagavi from his relative's house in a joint operation by the Udupi and Belagavi police for the brutally stabbing to death his flight cabin colleague of Ainaz, her two siblings Afnan (23), Aseem (12) and mother Haseena (46) and grievously injuring her grandmother Hajirabi.
During interrogation, Praveen Chowgule confessed to the crime and has been remanded to police custody till November 28.
There were various speculations abound around the motive behind the murder from unrequited love, involvement in gold smuggling, rift over mutual monetary transactions and so on.
However, the SP sources have revealed that at that outset Praveen was obsessed about Ainaz and this was the motive behind the brutal murder. Further details are expected to emerge during the interrogation.
