Mangalore, Aug 30:
Cases of theft in the city just don't seem to be dying down. In yet another incident, perhaps more shocking as it occurred in the broad daylight on Tuesday August 30, a sum of Rs 3,80,000 in cash was stolen from a two-wheeler.

The cash was in the glove compartment of a Honda Activa belonging to Kumarswamy, a contractor of Mangalore City Corporation who takes up road repair and other works in the city.

On Tuesday, Kumarswamy with Rs 4 lac in his possession and accompanied by a worker Rajaram, went to a bank in K S Rao Road here to deposit Rs 20,000 into his account. He took only the required amount into the bank and left the rest of the money, that is Rs 3,80,000, in the vehicle.

Rajaram who was waiting outside the bank for sometime went in after Kumarswamy called him.

To their utter shock, on returning, they found the glove compartment of the vehicle wide open and the cash missing. They lodged a complaint in Bunder police station, where a case has been registered.

In his complaint, Kumarswamy stated that he had locked the compartment and found that it had been broken and forced open later.

It is indeed shocking that anyone could get away with such a huge amount in a matter of minutes, in broad daylight in the heart of the city. Investigations are on.

Dal Me Kuch Kala Ha, Please dont blame police for all this silly thing, It is unbelieable that some body would leave so much money in the scooter, leave alone in Mangalore even the safest place in world, this looks like a joke, like a jewler leaving the shop open and going to have a coffee and then telling the police that his shop is looted, this is just to get some pity from the MCC or insurance there is certainly a catch in these type of news

There are only 2 options here. Police can solve this easily.
Kumarswamy is innocent and some other corporation contractor's people were watching him (since they lost the contract) and they may have robbed his scooter.
Number 2 option is very likely Kumardwamy planned everything before - took only a little token money to bank in CASH and also kept the remaining in scooter in a deserted spot, then he waited till his accomplice gave him a mobile call inside the bank, once he received the accomplice mobile call - he called his perfect alibi Rajaram inside bank so his accomplice could do the robbery outside.

Perfect planning according to Mr. Kumardwamy(if this second choice is true) but SADLY he will be CAUGHT soon because of his secondary/primary mobile phone number list of last called numbers today and also by his secondary bank account recent transactions in CASH.

    Jai Bharat!!!
It's a shame to rob taxpayer money like this!!!!

What police has to do if somebody neglects his responsibility....On the other hand police need to take custody of Kumaraswamy on two grounds
    1 for utter carelessness
2 why can't he might staged for unknown reasons....?

However,Owner of the money solely responsible for this theft. Why Rajaram was called by Kumaraswamy inside leaving such amount unattended was a million Dollar question?

I don't understand how Mr.Kumaraswamy could leave Rs.3,80,000/- in the glove compartment of his scooter, that too unattended by anybody. Maybe if he had taken the money along with him this incident would not have occurred.

These days we have heard of so many thefts in the city of Mangalore, in such case people should take precautions . What is the use of blaming the police after everything happens ???

This is the most careless act of Kumarswamy. He should have ensured he was always in possesion of such a large amount of cash. It appears either the person who accompanied him tipped the robbers or someone else was knowing about the cash. BTW, it appears to me that Kumaraswamy is a filthy rich guy to have left 3.8l unattended just like a bundle of newspapers!!!

Really it is shocking news that too in the day broad daylight all these taking place.Police department has a tough time to deal with.More the alert they are, more the robberies, more the murders takes place in a developing city like Mangalore. News appear in all the dailies/media about robberies, theft, murders but the action, result of the incidents appears to be totally Zero. That shows the inefficiency of the police department.Reason unknown.Political pressure or lack of amenities/facilities to deal with the cases. There are many cases unresolved in the police department like drug cases,Panjimogaru dual murder case and many more to say.No culprit neither has been nabbed nor booked so far or even punished. All the cases are under the custody of Police department unresolved. All the public hue and cry, protests were in vain. What I mean to say is the need of the hour is to investigate thoroughly, analyze the case properly, find out solid evidence/ proof, punish the culprit in such a way that no more crime is repeated in future.Law and order should be very severe and stringent. There should be fear in the mind of public. Now nobody is bothered and got any kind of fear, they can do anything they want and roam freely without any fear. What we need the action, result not publicity/advertisement in the dailies/media.If it continues Public should be in sheer panic/despair and sense of fear.Concerned department, authorities should take note of this points and act accordingly.

This incident reminds me of similar incident which took place in broad daylight in Panemangalore many years back.
A local electrician had collected several lacks of rupees from Puttur(arecanut sales money) & parked his scooter infront of KEB office to get some file work there. Someone who had followed him escaped with his scooter with all the cash in the glove box.
While lifting the 2wheeler he had fallen twice from the vehicle while starting it within a short distance in his haste, still nobody realised it was not his 2 wheeler.
Several years later he was caught & the vehicle was traced which was fit enough to be sold in Kgs only.
Take care when handling large amounts of cash in public places.

How many kilos aproximately Rs 380000 to carry along with. In a city like Mangalore I wouldn't leave Rs 380 even in my car. I think all these back to back robberies might be a handy work of one large group. This incident is utter carelessness.

Watch out for some out side state people ,especially workers from Bihar,UP and even from Bangla Desh.In Kerala, theft and murder are common because of these people.I think Mangloreans will do what some villagers did to 9 robbers last month.

This is a case of utter negligency by Kuamaraswamy. While opening the glove compartment to take Rs.20,000/- by Kuamaraswamy some miscreants might have observed it and acted swiftly on his/aid entering the bank. There is no point in blaming the police in this case. This can happen to anybody and any where in the given circumstances.

This instance is being dumb - carrying a large amount of cash and that too leaving it unattended in a scooter glove box. It takes few seconds for the cash to vanish not few minutes!

Safeguarding one's valuables is individual responsibility. When in possession of large amount cash one should be extra cautious and vigilant - that's smartness.
