Mangalore, Sep 1:
The foundation stone for the proposed Indian Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Bhawan in the city was laid at Alape near Padil here on the auspicious day of Ganesh Chathurthi on Thursday September 1.

District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar laid the foundation stone. In his address he said that chartered accountants of Mangalore belonging to the local branch of SIRC of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India proposed to have their own infrastructure which was a good sign.

Asserting that CAs are an asset to the nation, Palemar said that they have a lead role to play in nation's development as they are the ones who make businessmen pay taxes to the government without fail. He further said that income tax raids are nothing to be panicky about, and recalled that in 1993, even his properties were raided by the income tax officers, but as he had been prompt in paying taxes and because his auditor was brilliant, he did not fear any case of evasion of tax.

N Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly said that Indian CAs could play a lead role in bringing black money back to nation by acting as a guiding force to the central and the state governments. He called upon the CAs of the city to guide local administrations like the MCC and the zilla panchayat, once the building is erected with good infrastructure.

CA G Ramawamy, president, ICAI who sanctioned Rs 3 cr for the proposed building in Mangalore released the newsletter of the institution. Speaking on the occasion he called upon the CA students to inculcate the qualities of language and soft skills for better execution of their duties.

On the occasion architect of the building Chandrakiran and contractor Rajesh were felicitated.

CA Chandramohan K Y, chairman, welcomed. CA Jaydeep Narendra Shah, vice-president, CA K Raghu, CA Madhukar N Hiregange, CA K Shanmukha Sundaram, CA Nithin Shetty and CA Jagannath Kamath M among others were present.
