Udupi, Dec 13: The invitation of ‘Amrutha Sangama’, alumni meet organised on the occasion of platinum jubilee celebration of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College was released on December 13, by CA Varadaraj Pai in Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College.
CA Varadaraj Pai, secretary, Manipal Academy of General Education addressing the media said, “I feel proud to say that I am the former student of MGM College. I received professional and life education from MGM College. MGM is not only an educational institution it is also a cultural centre. The institution has provided lot of opportunity to students to showcase their talent. Amrutha Sangama will bring back all the old memories and cherished movement of graduated students.”
M L Samaga, retired principal and convener of Amrutha Sangama briefing about the event informed, “On the occasion of completion of 75 years, we have planned to unit all the passed-out students, we have organised ‘Amrutha Sanghama’ on December 23, a day-long event. Various cultural and other programmes will be arranged on that day. The programme will begin by offering respect to Madhav Pai statue before office. Photo gallery will be inaugurated on the same day, all the group photos of passed out batches. Later the Amrutha Sangama will be inaugurated in Mudanna Mantapa. A small event will be organised, all retired teaching and non-teaching staffs of MGM will be honoured. The students who studied and graduated from 1949-1970 we also be honoured. Various cultural and other performance will be performed by old students. Old student who are interested and have made achievements in cultural field will be given opportunity to perform on that day.”
Amrutha Sangama alumni meet will be held on December 23 at Mudanna Mantapa in the college premise. More than 5000 alumni are expected to be participating in the programme. Retired principals, teaching and non-teaching staff, and alumni from 1949 to 1970 batches will also be honoured on the occasion.
Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty, retired faculty and president MGM alumni association welcomed the gathering and preceded the event.
Prof Laxminarayan Karanth, principal MGM Degree College, Malathi Devi, principal MGM PU College, M Vishwanath Pai, secretary alumni association, Deepali Kamath, treasurer alumni association, Ragavendra Kini, convener of various committees’ and others were present.
