Kundapur, Dec 16: Purushottam Bilimale, a retired professor from JNU University in New Delhi, emphasized the need for creative expression in art, writing, drama, and films to break away from governmental constraints. Inaugurating the 8th State Conference of Samudaya Karnataka at Ashirwad Hall near Basrur Thukkai, Bilimale discussed the historical significance of Kannada literature breaking away from dominance to produce its best works.

He expressed concern about the increasing trend worldwide to suppress powers critical of the government, affecting not only coastal regions but the entire state and country. Bilimale called for the preservation of cultural values and urged those with a background of struggle to pass on responsibilities to the next generation.

Rajaram Tallur, chairman of the conference reception committee, highlighted the transforming landscape of coastal houses due to factors like the money order economy, liberalization, financial schemes, family planning, and land reforms. He noted the impact of new industries on the region, causing environmental issues and health concerns such as cancer.

Achyuta, the president of the Samudaya state committee, presided over the conference, while S Devendra Gowda, the secretary, served as the coordinator. Udaya Gaonkar, the working president, outlined the conference programme.
