Udupi, Dec 18: Signal poles and associated materials piled up on the pedestrian road near Diana Circle in Udupi have transformed the area into an accident-prone zone. Civic committee activists, Nithyananda Volakadu and Taranatha Mesta Shiroor, are urging the district administration to promptly clear the stored tools. To enhance safety, reflective strips have been affixed to the poles on the road.
The activists' social consciousness has gained public appreciation. With preparations underway for Udupi's Paryaya Utsava, a procession is scheduled to pass through this road, expecting millions of devotees. The accumulation of signal pole equipment not only disrupts devotee traffic but also poses a potential escalation of problems.
The initiative to install signal poles began due to the increased vehicle traffic in the city, aiming for a smoother traffic system. Although the foundation work for the signal pole at Triveni Circle and Old Diana Circle was completed, installation progress has halted for three months. Truckloads of materials stored on the footpath hinder pedestrian movement, leading to shrub growth and potential insect habitats. The area accumulates garbage, emitting foul odour. The activists demand urgent attention and resolution from the district administration to address these issues.
