Mangaluru, Mar 16: The Thiya Samaj's esteemed service during the Sri Kshetra Polali fair showcases ancient customs and sacred practices. This tradition, inaugurated with the ceremonial flag hoisting on Saturday, March 16, at Sri Ullala Bhagwati Kshetra within Sri Kshetra Nandya, epitomizes the Thiya Samaj's long standing legacy.
Under the guidance of Nandya, members of the Thiya Samaj gather to devoutly worship an array of deities, including Sri Bhagavati, Sri Bhadrakali, Sri Arasu Deiva, Sri Vishnumurthy, Sri Wayanadu Kulavan, and Parivar Deities. They embark on a serene procession towards the banks of the Phalguni River, illuminated by devotional torches and accompanied by melodic music.
Travelling via a traditional boat along the tranquil waterways, they reach the revered Sulekki Paddu Mahammai Katte, where they pay homage before proceeding to Sri Kshetra Polali. Cordially welcomed as custodians of Shri Devi's divine essence, they receive blessings and participate in sacred rituals.
The ceremonial call of ‘Aratha’ resonates across the sanctified grounds of Polali as dawn breaks the following day. The Bhadrakali temple is reverentially constructed in Kadar Mudi, symbolizing the eternal bond between devotees and their beloved deity.
The peaceful journey continues as they offer tributes to the seated deities at the sacred wells. The serene procession culminates at the renowned Sri Akhileshwar temple, where prayers are offered in unison. The subsequent day witnesses the continuation of these sacred rituals, with the resonating call of ‘Aardha’ echoing through the corridors of Polali. Returning to Nandya Kshetra, the sacred ‘Aradha’ ceremony takes place in the presence of Shri Bhagwati, reaffirming devotees' profound connection with their cherished deities.
Despite the financial burden of almost Rs. 40,000 faced by Nandya, the spiritual service continues uninterrupted. The programme generously extends hospitality and remuneration to distinguished individuals, fostering kindness and camaraderie.
Aspirations remain lofty as the Thiya Samaj continues to nurture its harmonious relationship with Sri Kshetra Polali and Nandya Kshetra. In this noble pursuit, the administrative board, Tantri, and priest caste must collaborate to ensure the perpetuation of this invaluable legacy.
