Bengaluru, May 4: In the wake of the MP Prajwal Revanna sex scandal, the Janata Dal (Secular) party (JD(S)) finds itself embroiled in a series of significant setbacks, with reports emerging that 12 MLAs from the JD(S) are contemplating quitting the party to join the Congress.
Sources indicate that despite securing victory in 19 seats during the 2023 elections, the JD(S) is facing internal turmoil, with a faction of 12 MLAs expressing intentions to defect to the Congress party.
These developments compound the challenges facing the JD(S), which had previously entered into an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Lok Sabha polls. However, the party suffered additional blows as some of its key leaders opted to join the Congress ranks.
Looking ahead to the future of state politics, it is anticipated that 12 JD(S) MLAs, led by G T Devegowda, will make the move to align themselves with the Congress party, potentially reshaping the political landscape in Karnataka.
