Mangaluru, May 20: A tragic accident occurred at Harekala Hajabba Government Senior Primary School in Newpadpu, resulting in the death of a class 3 student, Shazia Banu (7), due to the collapse of the school's compound wall. The incident happened on the evening of Monday, May 20, following heavy rains.

Shazia Banu, the daughter of Siddique and Jamila and a resident of Newpadpu, was killed in the accident.

Incident details

For the past two days, students from the National Service Scheme (NSS) at Mudipu Undergraduate College have been camping at Harekala Hajabba School. Shazia, who lived near the school, joined the activities. While playing near the school compound gate before heading home in the evening, the wall suddenly collapsed on her. Despite immediate efforts by locals to rescue her, Shazia succumbed to her injuries.

Frequent rains in Ullal taluk since the morning had weakened the compound wall, leading to its collapse. Harekala gram panchayat officials and Konaje police visited the site and are conducting an investigation.
