Mangaluru grapples with rise in theft cases, public criticises police inaction

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 23: Mangaluru is currently grappling with a surge in theft and loot cases, causing widespread concern among residents. According to reports, the police have struggled to resolve multiple recent theft incidents, which has emboldened criminals to continue their illegal activities.

One notable incident occurred on May 7, when a family returning from Mysuru discovered gold ornaments worth Rs 1.6 lakh had been stolen.

In another incident on May 10, a household lost a golden bangle, laptop, and cash in broad daylight while attending a Yakshagana performance. Similarly, on May 22, a different family returned from visiting relatives to find a stolen golden pendant, bracelet, watch, and silver finger.

Other incidents include thefts from a PG accommodation in Kottara on May 9, where a laptop and mobile were stolen, and from an eye hospital between May 18 and May 20, where Rs 74,000 cash was taken after the premises were locked overnight.

Additionally, more than 20 vehicles have been reported stolen across the city in the past month, often attributed to negligence on the part of vehicle owners.

Residents have voiced concern over reduced police presence and nighttime patrols, suggesting this may be contributing to the rise in thefts. They are calling for increased police visibility, regular vehicle checks, and improved security measures to combat the growing crime rate.

The situation underscores a community worried about safety and advocating for proactive law enforcement measures to effectively address the escalating theft incidents.

The Smart City is very vulnerable to burglaries if one sees the topography, pattern/sizes of individual houses, type and number of people residing, open display of opulence of the houses and especially by older women folk displaying large amounts of shining metal while going for prayers or marketing etc, high dependency on servants from other states etc etc!! If one is very well informed of the current affairs, there seem to be well organised gangs tracking people who earn lots of black money (in whatever way), and later targeting them through various means and techniques! Best is to embrace simplicity as much as possible to keep these dangerous pests away!! BTW; these are the severe ill effects of the widening rich-poor divide!😞😔🙏🙏 Please note that this is a very personal and generic opinion only!!

The incidents mentioned above are clear indicators of unemployment and a lack of safety in the city. Individuals resorting to theft in broad daylight are desperate to meet their expenses. These examples are minor compared to the larger, more significant robberies happening, particularly in the outskirts where there are no streetlights or proper safety arrangements. Residents must be vigilant and consider various safety measures when living with valuable assets. Do not allow beggars or salespeople to enter your premises; it's best to avoid them. If you see someone in need, assist them at your compound gates with money or food. Install cameras around your property, especially at entrance and exit points, to enhance security. It is crucial to take these precautions as the government has not taken adequate steps to improve security or safety measures in the country.

@MontyDa; here with high GDP, stock markets shining, etc etc individuals are paying more IT than the big fat corporates; how does it look to you; in that, certain very high income professionals work on cash basis only thus escaping from the income tax net; only workers employed in the formal sector pay the maximum tax with zilch state benefits in return; even the poorest of the poor are burdened with high GST from head to toe (cap to chappals)🥵😔😞😁🙏
