Mangaluru, Jun 27: The 5th edition of the Brand Mangaluru Award 2024 was presented to Mithun Kodattur, a reporter at Hosadigantha, on Thursday, June 27, at the Press Club here.

The chief guest for the occasion, Anupam Agarwal, police commissioner of Mangaluru city, said, "Firstly, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mithun. Every society has both negative and positive aspects, but what we choose to see is more important. I strongly believe that children should know about our freedom fighters. Mangaluru has long been known for its rich culture and achievements in the banking sector. No other place has contributed as much to society. We need to re-establish Brand Mangaluru because we have lost some momentum in maintaining it. Many journalists are highlighting the positive side, and those who are doing good work should be appreciated. Mangaluru has the potential to surpass Bengaluru in terms of development."

Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur said, "We have gathered here for a very good cause, and the contribution of the press and media in educating the masses is well-known. Under the Brand Mangaluru initiative, many programmes have been conducted in Dakshina Kannada. Tulunadu has a rich history, and in Mangaluru, we welcome people from all regions. While people from Tamil Nadu and Kerala often speak only in their mother tongue, the people of Mangaluru try to communicate in all languages. Mangaluru has excellent airport, port, and highway facilities, and there are centuries-old temples, churches, and mosques. Mangaluru should continue to grow. We aim to make Mangaluru a health center and strive to protect our environment. Today, Mangaluru is attracting many tourists with beach festivals, kite festivals, and other such programs. Mithun's writing highlights paddy cultivation and our traditions. Today, many farmlands are barren and are being used for building construction. We must uphold the value of what we want and take Mangaluru to a higher level."

Srinivas Nayak, president of the Dakshina Kannada Union of Working Journalists, welcomed the gathering, and Jithendra Kundesh delivered the vote of thanks.

MP Capt Ganesh Karnik, Vinod Pinto, Mohammad Iqbal, Harish Rai, Jaganath Shetty, and others were present.
