Patna, Nov 10: People quite often say, in India you cannot really enjoy your success. This is proving true in the case of much-publicised Kaun Banega Crorepati 5 winner Sushil Kumar of Bihar, who is reportedly getting calls from underworld dons for their 'share' of the Rs 5 crore he won on the show.
It is reported that Sushil Kumar's family members have received extortion and kidnapping calls from underworld goons.
There are a number of rich people around, but the way they amassed their wealth is not important - what is important is they are not in the limelight. But the Rs 5-crore KBC winner has indeed been in the news ever since he hit the jackpot. It was his effort, his talent and his knowledge that brought him luck and glory. There is no question of sharing his wealth with unknown goons.
But the people in Bihar village Motihari, from where Sushil Kumar hails, are downplaying the threat. "This is common, people are jealous of our star boy and also, lazy people who don't want to work hard look for easy ways of getting money. We are with Sushil, we will protect him and his family. He is our pride," they say.
But Sushil Kuamr is not upset about the underworld threat. "I am sad because the news of the underworld threat to me in the media brings bad name to my village and to my state," he says.
He also acknowledges the fact that some politicians and influential leaders have offered him support and security.
He has found fame all of a sudden, like cricket stars who win a single match for the nation and next moment they are surrounded by corporates for endorsements!
The 27-year-old computer operator is also getting endorsements by the dozen. It is reported that he was recently approached to be the brand ambassador for central government's National Rural Job Guarantee Scheme.
But he says, "Whoever threatens me should understand that I have no cash in my hand. It might take several months to get it in my account, and also, a huge percentage will go as income tax!
