Udupi, Sep 5: Kota Srinivas Poojary, MP for Udupi-Chikkamagalur, has called for the reinstatement of an award that was withdrawn by the state government for Ramakrishna B J, principal of the government pre-university college in Kundapur.

Addressing the media on September 5, Kota Srinivas Poojary emphasized the vital role teachers play in shaping a better society. He expressed concern and disappointment over the government's decision to revoke the award, describing it as surprising.

"The award was reportedly rescinded due to the principal’s compliance with a state government directive regarding the hijab issue," Poojary said. "A dress code was implemented, banning hijabs, and government officials, including the principal, adhered to the directive. The high court also issued an order supporting this, in line with the constitutional values laid out by Ambedkar."

Poojary questioned whether the government respects judicial authority, asking, "Does the government respect the High Court’s orders, or is it following its own agenda? The government must provide an answer."

He condemned the withdrawal of the award as an insult to the teaching community and urged the chief minister to rectify the situation by reinstating the teacher's award.
