Mangaluru, Nov 11: The department of medical imaging technology, SIAHS at Srinivas University organized the RADCON '24, a state-level conference, on November 9, at the university's Mukka campus in Mangaluru. This event was conducted in celebration of World Radiology Day, observed on November 8, and brought together esteemed professionals, faculty, and students from various institutions across Karnataka.
The conference commenced with an inaugural ceremony presided over by Dr K Sathyanarayana Reddy, vice chancellor of Srinivas University. The program was officially inaugurated with the support of Dr Anil Kumar, registrar of Srinivas University, and professor Pavana Krishnamoorthy, dean of the Institute of allied health sciences (SIAHS).
The chief guest for the event was Shashi Kumar Shetty, coordinator of medical imaging technology at KS Hegde medical academy, who shared valuable insights with the attendees. Savin K Vidhyan, course coordinator of medical imaging technology at SIAHS, played a vital role in organizing the event and ensuring its success.
Guest speakers and sessions:
The conference featured prominent guest speakers who presented on cutting-edge topics in medical imaging technology. The sessions included:
1.CT cerebral angiography: A comprehensive overview by Jaseemudheen MM, assistant professor at KS Hegde Medical Academy.
2.Innovative and novel techniques in MRI by Dr Winnecia Dkhar, associate professor at Manipal College of health professions, MAHE, Manipal.
3.Robotics in radiology by Athira Rajeev, assistant professor in the department of radiodiagnosis at KMC, Mangalore.
4.Radiomics: image processing techniques in the era of AI by Chandana R, assistant professor at AJ Institute of medical college and research centre, Mangalore.
5.Functional MRI and fingerprinting technique – basics & innovations in brain imaging by Karthik S, assistant professor at Yenepoya School of allied health sciences.
Competitions and awards:
The conference also hosted oral and poster presentations for postgraduate (PG) and undergraduate (UG) students, attracting participation from a large number of delegates. A total of 420 delegates from various colleges across Karnataka attended the event. The oral presentation competition featured 15 PG candidates and 9 UG candidates, while the poster presentation saw 20 submissions. Numerous students were recognized for their exceptional presentations and were awarded prizes.
Faculty members from other colleges were invited as guest judges, adding credibility and rigor to the competition evaluations. Additionally, special sessions for oral preparation and PG preparation were conducted, providing students with valuable exposure and preparation for professional endeavours.
Conclusion:
RADCON '24 proved to be a highly successful and engaging conference, it was collaborative knowledge sharing and networking among students, faculty, and professionals in the field of medical imaging technology. Held in honour of World Radiology Day, the event reflected the commitment of Srinivas University’s Institute of allied health sciences to advancing healthcare education and promoting excellence in medical imaging.
