Puttur: Pedestrian fatally hit by KSRTC bus at Shiradi market

Puttur, Nov 26: A pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a KSRTC bus in the Shiradi town market area on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH 75 on Monday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as K M Mathai, alias Mattacchan (70), a resident of Padambala in Shiradi village and an agriculturist.

Mathai had gone to the Shiradi town market to buy groceries. While walking along the roadside, a KSRTC bus traveling towards Bengaluru from Dharmasthala hit him. Mathai sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Puttur Government Hospital by ambulance before being shifted to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru. However, he succumbed to his injuries later that evening. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Adding to the family’s misfortune, Mathai’s elder son, Reji, has been bedridden since a scooter accident two months ago at Neladka near Udaane, where he was hit by a car. Unable to walk, Reji remains confined to his home. Mathai’s sudden death has deeply shocked the grieving family.
