Udupi, Nov 28: Mount Rosary English Medium School, Santhekatte, celebrated the first day of its annual event, 'Utsav 2024,' with great enthusiasm, showcasing a blend of cultural vibrancy for students from playhome to grade 4 on the school premises.
The event was graced by Fr Dr Roque D'Souza, correspondent; and alumna Akshatha S Kulal, who was the chief guest. The guests of honour included Fr Oliver Nazareth CSC, assistant parish priest; Sr M Jane Joseph SRA, superior, Goretti Convent; Shabana Anjum, BEO Brahmavar; Luke D’Souza, member, school management committee; Baptist Dias, member, school management committee; and Rathna Prathap, vice president, PTA. Sr Ancilla Roshani D'Mello, headmistress of Mount Rosary English Medium School; Neil Dsouza, assistant school pupil leader; parents, students, and other attendees were also present.
In his presidential address, Fr Dr Roque D'Souza said, "Today, we witness little children in colourful dresses showcasing their talents through various activities. The annual day is an occasion to highlight these talents. Our school is the largest in the surrounding area because of our excellent teachers, hardworking students, and supportive parents. Despite being a private school, we maintain the lowest fees. Education aims to bring out the hidden potential in children, and our school focuses on both academics and co-curricular activities. I congratulate the dedicated staff for their efforts in making this annual day a success."
Chief guest and alumna Akshatha S Kulal expressed her gratitude, saying, "I thank the management for inviting me as the chief guest. It has been my dream, as I sat in the audience, to one day be on this stage. I am grateful to all the teachers who helped shape me into a successful person. I have two key messages for the young minds here: first, limit distractions and reduce excessive screen time; second, strive for balance in your life so that you excel not just academically but also in co-curricular activities. Take every opportunity that comes your way and make the most of it."
Block educational officer, Brahmavar, Shabana Anjum, also addressed the gathering, stating, "School is the golden period in a child's life, where they learn and develop their overall character. I thank Savitribai Phule, who fought for women's education, which has empowered girls today. This empowerment is evident as we have a woman chief guest in today's program. Mobile phones are a real distraction for young minds. Parents today have less communication with their children due to busy schedules, but it is essential to listen to our children as they follow what we do, not what we say. Schools should also work to prevent absenteeism, as students can easily get distracted when not in school. I am happy to say this is one of the best schools in Brahmavar taluk."
Headmistress Sr Ancilla Roshani D'Mello presented the annual school report, and the guests, Akshatha S Kulal and Shabana Anjum, were felicitated.
The programme featured delightful performances by students from playhome to grade 4, bringing immense joy to the audience. The performances included a student choir, dances, skits, an abacus demonstration, and a hand movement show.
The annual day for students of grades 5 to 10 will be held on November 28 at 4:30 PM.
Teacher Meena Pinto welcomed the gathering, teacher Divya introduced the guests, and teacher Neema delivered the vote of thanks. Students Advith and Fatima served as the programme's comperes.
