Former bureaucrats, diplomats urge PM Modi to uphold India's syncretic traditions

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 3: A group of former bureaucrats and diplomats, including former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over increasing demands to investigate medieval mosques and dargahs.

In their letter, the group highlighted the potential dangers of such claims, cautioning against using them to create divisions among communities. They underscored the importance of preserving India's syncretic and pluralistic traditions, which have been the cornerstone of the country's cultural and religious harmony for centuries.

The Ajmer Dargah, one of the most revered Sufi shrines in Asia, was cited as a prime example of India's heritage of unity in diversity. The shrine attracts people from all walks of life and faiths, symbolizing the spiritual bond that transcends religious differences.

The signatories stressed the need to focus on fostering national unity and preserving India's shared cultural legacy. They urged the government to take a balanced approach and avoid measures that could lead to further polarization.

The letter comes amidst a broader debate over the historical narratives surrounding places of worship, sparking widespread discussion across social, political, and religious spectrums.

Country is Hindustan, land of hindus, nobody consulted the majority when making the constitution, if we're a democracy then constitution should also be formed by asking the opinion of the people, if india wants to move away from pseudo secular nonsense, then its her right to do so.

You are living in the age of the Aranyakas and Manusmriti. If the whole country follows your principles, life will be impossible. Majoritarian dictatorship is a big fallacy. Even 99% of the people cannot decide what to do with the personal assets, beliefs, likes, political preferences of that 1%. "Live and let live" is the only viable principle.

BJP is digging its own grave by such communal agenda. It has never learnt from utter humiliating debacle in election in Ayodhya where it launched its main communal agenda. By the grace of Lord Ram who was annoyed by BJP’s anti constitutional and anti minority attack Lord Ram cursed them a worst ever defeat in election in his very holy land.

Mr Das, some commentators like you are suffering from amnesia. Think of CONgress. The party is slowly sinking into an abyss of Shakeasperean tragedy. For it's allies ( TMC/AAP ) , the grand party is only a requisite at national level for power sharing and they go solo in assembly polls, thus strengthening their respective bases. Except for a state or two, the party is playing second fiddle to it's allies ( NC/SP/NCP/JMM/left etc) . The party has failed to realize that the allies are it's " hidden " enemies rather than the BJP. Establishing export quality jalebi factories, cash for votes, turning potatoes into gold, crediting Pandavas for not imposing GST and spreading falsehood at national and international levels won't aid it much. The party has to get it's act together and sooner , the better. In a sense , BJP is lucky to have a weak opposition in CONgress.

You have to think of your own BJP party seriously which is in 2 crutches ventilator state and soon to lose balance and fall into bottom less pit which you are digging for others. BTW, whatever opposition parties are doing is thier personal and private matter but you have very uncouthed dirty habit of peeping into others toilets, kitchens and bedrooms and poking your nose. Being Yogi and being in politics at the same time is agsinst the God and constitution.

Minority religion hatred, Cow and Love Jihad and the vigilantes force like BD, moral police were supported and promoted by BJP, finally female students' school uniform code, ban on their head cover/veil, Ban on Hindu girls falling for Muslim boys or inter religion marriage, Religion conversions. (Converting to Hinduism ok (Welcome but but converting to Muslim or Christianity is banned. Exporting Yoga or Hindu morals to Western countries is an awareness) No more India, that needs to be changed to Hindustan Bharat. All for gaining vote bank. Reasonable Hindus have finally realized Modi's motives and political intentions. God save our country and country men.

All this tamasha is orchestrated by the Gujatat lobby in Delhi. Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT) aptly calls this मर्कट लीला (markat-leela = monkey business) and we are likely to see more of this as time passes. Now who will be our sankat vimochak?

It is clear who has written this. When wakf board goes on claiming land that does not threaten national unity. But if Ajmer Dargah sees lower foot fall and some questions are asked, then it threatens national unity? Familiar quarter, familiar concern/vested interest. In the same vein, shall we ask if the former VP of India did service to the nation and its unity by divulging details of Indian intelligence agents (they were subsequently hunted and killed) in another country, to the interlocutors of that country?

JUSTCIE CHANDRACHUD -- needlessly waded in and passed an oral judgement which has opened a Can of worms or proverbial Pandora's box- 1847 was the cutoff date -- and all was peaceful- (BJP has failed on economy now only hope is political polarization --)-- Earlier judgements as below -- The 1991 Places of Worship Act prohibits any changes to the religious character of a place of worship in independent India. The only exception to the law was the site of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, where a Ram temple is now being built following a Supreme Court. With the stated goal of promoting communal harmony and peace, the act criminalizes the alteration of a place of worship for one religion or sect into that for another. It freezes the character of a place of worship as it was on August 15, 1947 and bars courts from looking into whether any place of worship has been converted after the August 15, 1947 cutoff date.

Lot's of politicians, State CM's, (Yogi #1) Hindu organizations such as , Ram Sena and some Seers time and again try to disturb peaceful society and peaceful coexistence by doubting about minority religions and their role and their cultural effect on Indian culture. Cristians missionaries as religion conversions, Muslim community for Love Jihad. Mogul rule for invading and spreading Muslim Religion. (thankfully Mogul recipes and delicacies are every ones dear & near)

History has shown that history repeats itself... Such allowing of probe into established places of worship will only cripple delicate social fabric further... As a result a day may come when a fanatic Hindu or Fanatic Muslim may feel it was better if the existing status was expected and untouched... How visionary PM Modi will turn out to be is something that remains to be seen... But as we witness the unfolding events leading to deaths of people was unwarranted and quite unnecessary for the national safety n integrity... We have many other burning needs of common masses to address which are of paramount importance than religions...
