Manipal, Dec 06: Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Manipal, has taken a significant leap forward in dental education with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Dental Simulation Lab on December 2. Designed to enhance pre-clinical training and skill development, the lab is equipped with advanced Phantom head units that replicate functional dental chairs, providing students with a realistic simulation of dental procedures.
The facility caters to both undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, enabling hands-on training in various specialties such as conservative dentistry and endodontics, prosthodontics, paediatric and preventive dentistry, and periodontology. Uniquely, the lab also includes four units specially designed for left-handed students, ensuring an inclusive learning environment for all.
The lab was inaugurated by the honourable vice-chancellor of MAHE, Lt gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, who praised the facility's modern design, stating, “This Dental Simulation Lab sets a new benchmark in dental education. It empowers students with practical skills and confidence to excel in their careers, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet real-world clinical challenges.”
Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, pro vice-chancellor of MAHE, also shared his thoughts, saying, “This initiative demonstrates MAHE’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence in education. The Dental Simulation Lab is a testament to our dedication to providing students with the best resources to enhance their learning experience.”
The ceremony was graced by other distinguished guests, including Shridhar Rao, director of general services at MAHE. Dr Monica Charlotte Solomon, dean of MCODS, shared insights into the meticulous planning and efforts that went into establishing the lab, while Dr Sandya Kini, head of the department of conservative dentistry, provided a live demonstration of the simulation units, highlighting their cutting-edge features.
This innovative lab reflects MCODS's commitment to excellence in dental education, equipping students with the skills and confidence needed for clinical practice. Faculty members and students alike are encouraged to utilize this groundbreaking facility to its fullest potential.
