Mangaluru: Police nab accused within 24 hrs of theft; recover loot worth Rs 7.3 lacs

Mangaluru, Dec 10: The Mangaluru East police successfully apprehended a suspect within 24 hours of a daring theft near Kankanady Market, recovering stolen gold jewelry and a laptop worth Rs 7.3 lac.

The incident occurred on December 8, when the owner of a parked Creta car returned to find the car’s window shattered and a vanity bag containing gold ornaments worth Rs 6.8 lac and a laptop missing. A case was registered at the Mangaluru East Police Station under Cr. No. 204/2024, Section 303(2) of the BNS Act, following which an intensive investigation was launched.

Acting swiftly, the police team traced and arrested Abdul Akram, aged 33, a resident of Adyar village, Mangaluru taluk. The accused had used an Access scooter for the crime, which was also seized. The team recovered the stolen items, including gold and the laptop, successfully bringing the case to closure.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of police commissioner Anupam Agarwal, with additional directives from DCP law and order Siddarth Goyal and DCP crime K Ravishankar. Assistant commissioner of police Prathap Singh Thorat led the investigation, with the efforts of inspector Somasekhar JC, PSI Umesh Kumar MN, and the crime detection team.

This prompt action by the police has been lauded by the community, showcasing their commitment to maintaining law and order in the city.
