Kasargod, Dec 22: A man died at the general hospital here on Thursday December 22 after he was given an injection. His family members, angered by the incident, created chaos in the hospital and police had to arrive to bring the situation under control.

Mohammed Sharif (38), son of M S Abdulla and Nafeesa of Beejanthadka, Badiyadka is the deceased. The incident occurred at around 1.30 pm.

Sharif was injured in an accident sometime back, and had suffered wounds on his chest. The doctor prescribed him to take an injection every month.

On Thursday, he came to the general hospital in Kasargod for the injection. After check up, the doctor told Sharif to get the injection from outside as it was out of stock in the hospital. Sharif went to Mangalore, got the prescribed dose and returned to the general hospital in Kasargod to be injected.

Less than half an hour after he was given the injection, he breathed his last. Though doctors made every attempt to save him, it was all in vain.

Relatives complained that though doctors in Mangalore hospital instructed that the injection had to be given on his leg, he was injected on his hand at the general hospital here.

When Sharif's mother went to see him, hospital staff is said to have denied her permission. His brother Zubair then arrived, and his other relatives and public created ruckus in the hospital. Police were deployed at the spot.

Following the incident, Dr Sushil and nurse Ramya have been suspended by medical officer Vimal Raj and an enquiry has been ordered.

    Mr Rodrigues.

The deceased patient had penicillin injections before so your theory goes out of the window. Don't feed the conspiracy theory nuts who are waiting for an excuse to take to the streets to protest against "discrimination"

Mr. CK Dayananda & Mr. Crasta.., If the victim were your brother or uncle you would not have commented in this way rather ordered to hang the doctor and nurse in public. Remove your communally tinted specs and see the world in clear view. Mr. Bhat has sense and I agree with him in this matter.

You right Mr. Crasta. Every department in this country is bending to the pressure of this community. This type of incidents will lead you anti-Godhra like reactions every where.

The Doctor and the Nurse should be immediately reinstated.

Some people are highly allergic to Penicillin, which can lead to instantaneous death, and it was a practice to inquire with the patient about his allergy history or giving a small jab to found his allergy status, but nowadays it is directly injected. Most probably he expired due an anaphylatic reaction. RIP brother!!

Why suspend poor dr Sushil and nurse Ramya to placate a community filled with a sense of entitlement?

There are many doctors who are not qualified and still practicing medicine same like unqualified pilots who are flying by obtaining licence by paying bribes.Lets hope for the Lokapal bill to come into force and it may eradicate this problem.

Every life is PRECIOUS! Only punishment can serve as a deterrent to prevent further such tragedies. May the soul of deceased R.I.P.
