Tragic incident at Tirumala temple raises safety concerns

New Delhi, Jan 9: During the Vaikuntha Ekadasi celebrations at Tirumala temple, a stampede resulted in six fatalities and around 30 injuries. The incident occurred when a gate was opened to assist an ill devotee, leading to a sudden rush.

TTD chairman BR Naidu acknowledged possible administrative lapses and stressed the need for a thorough review of crowd management protocols. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has requested a comprehensive report to address the situation and prevent future occurrences. The temple premises were overcrowded with thousands of devotees, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures during peak festivals.
