Mangalore: Woman Slips off Bike, Gets Killed by Passing Truck

Mangalore, Dec 30: A woman died in an accident near Kuloor bridge here at around 3 pm on Friday December 30.

The deceased is Agnes D’Costa, a resident of Merlapadav and mother of Capuchin priest Fr Anil D'Costa, Santosh D’Costa, ace compere and former president of ICYM Mangalore diocese, Ashok and Aswitha. She was riding pillion with her relative Vinod, and both of them were visiting families to invite them for Ashok's wedding which was fixed for January 5.

The accident occured when Agnes slipped and lost her grip on the guard of the motorcycle and fell on to the road. The rear tyre of a tipper truck plying in the opposite direction ran over her, killing her on the spot. The truck driver seemed to be unaware of the accident and continued on his way.

The body was shifted to the morgue in Wenlock Hospital here.

Panambur police have registered a case in this regard.

The accident occurred because motorcycle manufacturer violated CMV Rule 123 for pillion rider Safety. High Court of Kerala and Madhya Prdesh have banned registration of motorcycles not complying with CMV Rule 123,on 25th. Nov 2008.Manufacturers have made Civil Appeal No. 5359 of 2010 in Supreme Court of India.The victims family may make a Criminal Complaint in the Court of Magistrate First Class against motorcycle manufacturer for selling motorcycle with false Safety Certificate under CMV Rule 127.I will provide all legal assistance.

I am extremely saddened to hear about this unfortunate news. I really feel sorry for this tragedy. I can empathize with you as I too have faced such tragedy in my life too.
